Shannon and Mark could not be more excited to meet their little one. The nursery is ready to go, the cloth diapers have been ordered, the list of names has been narrowed down. In less then 2 months they will be holding a brand new baby. Everyone who knows them can't wait either. Including Stacey and I so Cooper will have a new friend to play with someday!

I passed on the manual that came with ours to Mark. He had much the same reaction I did when I read some of it!

Melissa & Iain - Married - Oakville Wedding Photographer

Some people are just drawn to each other, and it's amazing how well our instincts can lead us to what is just right... just meant to be. Iain and Melissa are perfect for each other. They make each other feel at ease, and you can sense that when you are around them.

They met work, and Melissa knew as soon as she saw Iain that she wanted to know him more. So she didn't hesitate and slipped him a note while they were working asking him if he'd like to go for coffee. Iain replied quite politely that he'd love too.

And so love began.

Iain and Melissa had a beautiful ceremony in charming Bronte village in Oakville, right beside the lake. The grey clouds of the morning opened up to summer sunshine and blue skies for the afternoon. It was the perfect day.

I would like to wish Iain and Melissa all the happiness they deserve. Congratulations guys!

Alyssa & Corey - Lakeside Wedding - Southern Ontario Wedding Photographer

Alyssa and Corey decided to have their ceremony beside the lake in their small Ontario town. The setting could not have been more beautiful.

Despite looming clouds right up to and through the ceremony, the rain stayed away. And in what seemed so true to the moment, the sun came out to shine just as they were pronounced husband and wife.

Simply perfect.

While the girls got ready in the morning, the boys enjoyed a round of golf.

Despite the grey skies and the constant threat of rain, this years Relay for Life event in Guelph was an even bigger success then last year! And why wouldn't it be? It's a great event for a great cause and I was proud to be able to volunteer my services again this year to capture the evening for all those involved.

If you've had Cancer affect anyone close to you, you know how important these fundraisers are in the continuing fight against all forms of cancer. I encourage everyone to help in any way they can, by donating your time or money towards this or really any other worthy charity. There is so many causes that need our help!

The people at this all night relay are always in high spirits and come out to have a good time all while raising awareness and funds toward the much needed research. It really feels like one big family.

The never-ending rain in May forced us to cancel our first planned session.

June came and it seemed summer had finally stepped in with some nice warm (very warm actually) sunshine. I met up with Mandy and Rob in quaint downtown Milton to take advantage of the beautiful weather late on Sunday afternoon for some engagement photos.

We wandered some of the nature trail, stopped for ice cream and walked around the town hall, which is a beautiful blend of new and old architecture.

These guys were great and were totally up for anything I asked them to do.

We had some fun and got some beautiful light nearing the end of the day.

It's been almost 2 years since we adopted Chloe and we can't imagine our lives before her.
Her soft, friendly face gets you every time, and no matter how bad your day has been,
she always has a way of making it feel better.

Chloe is without a doubt a people dog. Even at the dog park, she would sooner
say hi to every single person there and pretty much ignores all the other dogs.

That and of course her over the top obsession for Tennis balls. She will play ball until she literally drops.

It's been tough with the baby to give Chloe all the attention she deserves, but we do our best.

She doesn't pay much attention to the little one right now, but I know they will be best buds before long. Especially
when Cooper starts throwing food all over the floor at meal times!

Chloe, we love you with all our hearts.

six months of parenthood

Well, we've officially been parents now for 6 entire months! The good news is Cooper is still alive and very healthy!
No matter what people tell you, you cannot be prepared for the gamut of emotions you go through being a new parent.

In the past 6 months I can safely say we've gone through the following emotions and feelings:

Happy, scared, worried, proud, tired, exhausted, frustrated, victorious, puzzled, baffled, stressed, amazed, worried (again),
did I mention tired and exhausted?, comforted, and back to happy.

Phew!

We are stunned (another emotion) at how both long and very short the past 6 months have seemed. Cooper's little personality is really starting to show and it's clear he will be keeping us on our toes for many, many years to come! And I'm sure we will love every single moment.

Spring has Sprung

This week has been much better as far as the weather is concerned. The seemingly never ending April showers have finally subsided and although still few and sparse, the May flowers are making their appearance.

I'm very much looking forward to the nicer weather that spring and summer brings, so I can get out and enjoy nature with my family. We love to go for hikes during the summer months and plan on hauling along our little guy on many of his first outdoor adventures.

We have one of those fancy backpack child carriers to try out.. we'll see how that goes. We're hoping he loves it, and I'm hoping it doesn't break my back carrying him. I guess we'll be sticking to the somewhat 'easier' trails for the next couple years.

I stumbled across this video "A Thousand Bees" by Sara Lov from Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming.

The super cool video was made up of over 4,500 still photos which was recently written about in PDN because it’s made of over 4,500 stills shot by photographer Noah Webb and was recently featured in PDN

Although the video is a couple years old now and stop motion isn't anything new to the world of photography, it never ceases to capture your attention and imagination.

It's work like this that can inspire us to keep going. To keep shooting. To always push our limits and vision.

I've decided to post more to this blog then just my photography. I plan to share things that inspire and amaze me and keeps my creative juices flowing.

Hopefully it will encourage some people to follow if they share my interest in photography and art in general.

Our new baby boy has kept us extremely (extremely) busy as of late, and more then just a bit exhausted. However, with all the trials and tribulations (Re: crying, pooping and spit-ups) there comes a lot of love. His utter cuteness is often his saving grace, and one look at his adorable little face reminds us why we do it.

We love him so. And all his baby bits.

Someone has been keeping us very busy lately, so I apologize for the lack of blog posts.

Tomorrow.. Cooper is 1 month old already!
I still can't believe I'm a dad. It's surreal but amazing at the same time.

Despite the severe lack of sleep, and stress that has come as a result of taking care of a newborn, there are those moments when he's looking back at you, and you forget all that and nothing else matters.

And when he falls asleep in your arms, his peaceful innocence washes over you and somehow he has just stolen your heart.

Dear Son,

In a few short days, you will make your entrance to the world.
Your mom and I are very anxious, nervous, and most of all excited for your arrival.
For the past 9 months, you don't know it, but you've been a part of our lives already.
We've brought you along on our daily routines, outings and family gatherings.
We hope we didn't bore you too much.

Every couple weeks, with the help of the doctor, we checked in on you.
To make sure you were healthy, comfortable, and growing.
You did everything you were expected to do.
And we were in awe of every moment.

We knew eventually, you could hear us. Probably just murmurs to you really.
But we talked to you often.
Mostly asking you just to stop kicking the crap out of mom's insides.
Sometimes you'd listen, but most of the time, you had your own schedule.

So now, months have become days... hours really.
You are about to have a lifetime ahead of you.
And please know that want only the best for you.
As your parents, we promise to be the best we can.

We promise to;
Be strong as we can be for you.
Guide you to make the right decisions.
Take you on many adventures.
Show you how to have fun.
Teach you everything we can.
Allow you to grow and explore.
Make you feel safe.
Keep you warm.
And most of all... give you all the love we are able to give.

Our mistakes will be honest ones.

less than two weeks left! - ontario maternity photographer

We're down to less than two weeks until we are proud parents and we're not sure where the past 9 months has gone!! Time always seems to speed up when good things are happening in your life. That's what I love so much about photographs. Capturing those moments and creating something that brings you back to exactly how you were feeling at that precise time. It's truly amazing.

Speaking of amazing.. I am in awe of what the female body is capable of. I think Stacey really is glowing, and I keep telling her, part of me is going to miss the belly when it's gone. It's just so darn cute on her. Things are getting a bit uncomfortable now for her though, and an uninterrupted, comfortable sleep is hard to come by. Which is tough, especially when this is the time we'll both be needing as much sleep as we get in store for our impending sleepless nights ahead. It's really too bad you can't actually 'bank' some sleep for those times when you need it. ;)

For now, we will enjoy our few remaining days of being 'two' and look forward to the fun, exciting and even more loved filled days of being 'three'

We really can't wait to meet the little guy. He is loved already.

Another beautiful fall day meant more Family portrait time. Rhonda wanted some nice photos of her with her amazing kids, Meghan and Aiden. Our backdrop was Webster's Falls, a very beautiful (and popular) spot near Hamilton, Ontario. The fall colours had attracted many others, but we managed to find some nice quiet spots too shoot.

I love fall. It is by far my favourite of all seasons. There's that crispness to the air without being too cold and the turning leaves change the normally green landscape to an entire palette of warm red, yellow and gold. So when Mother Nature hands you the perfect backdrop for engagement photos, you grab it!!
Iain and Melissa asked me to come down to their cozy little town to take some engagement photos for them. I was more then happy too!

Of course, it wouldn't be fall without a friendly leaf fight!

Thanks for being such good sports guys! I had a great time and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect fall day! Can't wait for your wedding next June!

We are now less then a month until our new little addition makes his appearance and we're getting close to having the nursery as ready as it can be.

We're hoping to find a fun area rug to bring some much needed colour to the floor.

We still have to hang the artwork and find some small shelves. The dresser will double as a change table once we get the change pad attached to the top.

Stacey came up with the idea of the Z's above the crib. We're hoping it has a sleepy affect on him so Mom and Dad can get some sleep as well. :)

I'm particularly proud of the dresser. It took many hours of hard work, but we love how it looks in the room.

I picked this baby up for $25 at a local thrift shop and could see the potential. After sanding it down, some paint, stain and a coat of poly... we ended up with a nice modern piece that will hopefully last him well into his teens!!

I will post more shots when we get everything completed and in place. But I couldn't resist sharing our progress so far. We are both getting very excited (and nervous) to meet the little guy. We hope he loves his room.

My little bro is married!! They decided on a small intimate wedding for close family and friends and the day turned out to be a wonderful one! All be it with a few memorable hiccups, but hey, it only gave them some fun stories to laugh over when they look back years from now.

This is the first time I was asked to photograph a wedding I was also a part of. It was challenging, but I loved the chance to capture the day for them.

here's a few of the more memorable moments of the day.

My favourite shot of the day

We headed out to a local park to get some shots before the ceremony. Mother Nature was looming with the threat of rain all day, but she held off long enough for us.. and we appreciated it immensely.

Try shooting a wedding and being in the shots at the same time!!

It was then time for the ceremony, which I was to be a part of, so I didn't actually get any shots of it. This is where things got a bit interesting... The officiant was late!! After waiting for about 15 minutes and trying to get a hold of her on the phone with no luck, we quickly phoned to try and find another officiant to perform the ceremony. Only one problem, the other officiant had the wedding license!! So we jumped in the car and flew down to City Hall to quickly get another license before they closed for the day! Of course we were almost out of gas, and we ran into road closures at almost every turn! It was quite the scene as we rushed into the building, everyone was watching us. Luckily, the phone call came and the original officiant had finally showed up, she had mixed up her times!! So crisis adverted, we headed back and the ceremony proceeded. Despite the hiccup, it was a beautiful ceremony.

Time to eat and party!

My first Celebrity photoshoot!

I got the opportunity to shoot Cheryl Tiegs for the upcoming cover of Forever Young News

We only had a short few minutes with her before she had to do an interview, so I kept it simple. Luckily the hotel room provided some nice window light and Cheryl of course was a pro! She gave me a slew of different poses with ease.

I have to say, at 63 years young, she still looks great!

Facebook is amazing. It has allowed us to reconnect with people whom, due to our hectic lives and schedules, we may have lost touch with over the years.
Jenn is a friend of mine from back in my college years. She sent me a message and asked if I could take some photos of her family. Of course I would!

We had kept in touch a bit and I was a guest at her and Mike's wedding a few years ago, but since we just hadn't had much chance to get together. Their family has grown and now they have two amazing girls. We finally found a chance to hang out again and to get some nice family shots in the park on a hot summer afternoon.

The girls were full of energy despite the heat. Keeping up with them was tricky!
We found whatever shade we could and made the most of the afternoon.

I had a great time photographing your family guys!! And I really hope we get to hang out again sooner this time!!

Well, it feels VERY real now... we are now only a short time away from being parents!
We're now at 28 weeks and the time is flying by, so we figured we had better get some photos done to be able to look back upon this time and share with our new little one how he looked while still inside his mom!

MOVIE NIGHT - Southern Ontario Event Photographer

This was a fun promotion with a great cause. Eastgate Square in Stoney Creek asked me to capture its Family Movie Night at the mall. The flick of the evening was a classic for families: E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. One of my all-time faves. E.T himself even made an appearance!
The price of admission was a non-perishable food donation collected by volunteers from the Salvation Army. In return, movie goers also got a few treats to enjoy and a complimentary umbrella in the event that Mother Nature had other plans. She was kind, however, and it was the perfect evening to watch a movie under the stars.
Staff set up a giant inflatable screen and there was plenty of seating for everyone.
As the sun set, the movie began, and a great time was had by all!

Thanks go out to the management and staff of Eastgate Square, and the volunteers of the Salvation Army for collecting the Food donations.

Centre On Barton Food Pavilion Opening Day

The Centre on Barton has gone through a major renovation. The old mall was torn down and in place was built a brand new, modern open air pedestrian friendly plaza.
Part of the new design included a separate food pavilion, providing a wonderful, bright and fresh area for shoppers to enjoy a quick bite while they are out.

I was asked to capture the events of the opening day for the new building. Excited patrons waited eagerly in line outside for a chance to see the new eating area and enjoy an early morning meal. Everyone who showed up early received a gift bag to mark the occasion.

Congratulations goes out to the management and staff of the centre on Barton for a successful opening day!

double trouble - southern ontario newborn photographer

These one week old twins are Jack and Abby.
I was very excited to be able to take some photos of them for their parents, as twins don't come along very often. We had some tough times as the babies had other agendas for the day, but managed to get a few good shots. It's amazing even at such a young age how you could distinctly tell they both had very different personalities. Both were equally adorable though and so tiny!!

I hope to be able to capture them again in a few weeks as they grow quickly I'm sure!

Childrens Charity Golf Tournament — Southern Ontario Event Photographer

Last week I volunteered to take team photos at a children's charity golf tournament involving business owners from the leisure boating industry. They were a great bunch of people and fun to photograph. I didn't get many action shots as I was there primarily to make sure I got a shot of all 36 teams together, so I had to plant myself at one hole to make sure I got them all as they played through. I had also hoped to have had access to a golf cart to whiz around the course to take some other shots, but they were short on carts, so that wasn't possible either.
All in all, it was a beautiful day for golf though, and they group raised over $24,000 for Children's Charity.. and really that's all that matters.

They had several special 'contest' holes all over the course to add to the fun, including this 'closest to the keg' hole. The golfer who got their drive closest won a keg of beer! Not a bad prize at all I say.

trash the dress... the debate - southern ontario wedding photographer

What is that you say? You want me to do what in my wedding dress? are you crazy?
This is often the reaction a bride will give you when you suggest them jumping into a lake or climbing into that beat up old junkyard bus while wearing the dress that made them feel like a princess on that special day.
There is usually one extreme side or the other taken on this debate on 'trash the dress' sessions. It's either a reaction of sheer horror, or an enthusiastic 'hell ya'.

Being a photographer and an artist, I would love it if every bride wanted to do one of these sessions with me. And why not? It's just too cool.
I love the idea of placing a beautiful bride in a setting that would just not be expected or typical of a wedding photo. It simply makes art in an instant.

MSN recently featured 13 amazing Trash the Dress Wedding photos and I love them all!!! I only wish some of my own shots would have been featured. They also raise the question as to whether or not the end photos are worth potentially destroying your beloved wedding gown. I say most definitely.

Here's the thing though... 'trash the dress' doesn't necessarily mean literally 'trashing' anything. Sure it may get a bit dirty, but it probably did on your wedding day as well.

Here's some suggestions if you are considering it yourself:
1. Buy another gown to trash! Who says it has to be your actual wedding dress your trashing? I've had some brides find a suitable gown in a thrift shop at a cost of may $50. For that price, you could trash it a couple times and not worry about the dress you hope to pass onto your daughter someday

2. Find a location that won't be so messy. Sure, wading into a pond, or climbing around a junkyard may not be your thing. But how about a bride in the middle of a crowded downtown street, or against a graffiti filled wall. There is tons of locations that would be safe for a session, without much risk of the dress getting harmed.

3. Get your hubby involved. Have him dress up as well, and join you for some ultra-romantic shots, and a time you guys will never forget with photos to remind you for a lifetime. These shots can often be even better then your wedding photos, because there isn't the pressure of the day looming over your head. You can just relax and have some fun!

4. Use this as your moment to shine! Every woman loves to feel beautiful. And you feel the most beautiful when you have your wedding gown on. Let it show and get some amazing images of yourself looking your best! Again, you will have the images for a lifetime, and all your friends will be jealous when they see the framed photo of you on your wall.

5. Just go for it! Why not? What are you saving it for? It's highly unlikely the dress will be worn again by your daughter. Styles change, and peoples tastes are different. Give yourself the gift of wearing the dress again for you!! You love the dress, you bought it for you!! celebrate it and immortalize it with some fantastic and unique photos.

Interestingly enough, smartbrideboutique.com is having a live debate about this on June 23rd. I have to wonder how many photographers might join in the debate in an effort to sway more brides into doing a 'trash the dress' session. I'm thinking about it myself.

Relay For Life 2010. Southern Ontario Event Photographer.

Last Friday, I happily donated my services to capture the 2010 Relay For Life fund raiser by the Canadian Cancer Society.

What an amazing group of people!! Everyone there was incredibly happy, positive and ready to have some fun and bring some awareness and raise some money for an extremely important cause.

Anyone wearing a yellow shirt is a survivor of cancer, and continue their fight against the deadly disease that affects so many families all over the world. They are the heroes of the night.

The event goes all night long, as participants camp out in teams and take turns walking a track into the wee hours of the morning. All while enjoying some good food, friends, fun activities, and listening to some great live bands on the main stage. So much fun!!

The most emotional part of the evening has to be the luminato ceremony, where the track is lines with candle lit paper bags with messages written on them to the loved ones who have had cancer touch their lives. The sight is very beautiful and touching.

My part was a small one compared to the many committee members and volunteers that were there to help. All of them did an amazing job. I only hope my images convey the true feelings of the night for them.

Last week, we were all sure spring had made it's arrival, I even went ahead and took the snow tires off the cars (gasp!)
Although the snow has not mad a re-appearance, thankfully... the temperature has taken a major dip again, and it is a wee bit chilly outside.

I see each tree as having their own personality, and I'm not
sure how that is conveyed... but it is.

Lindsay and Greg's wedding, in the middle of January, promised to be a chilly one. But it didn't hinder their spirits! The warmth of the happy occasion kept the brisk winter wind from having its full effect on all of us.

With the grounds of historic Dundurn Castle in Hamilton, as our beautiful backdrop, I had tons of fun capturing their endless smiles for each other.

I wish Lindsay and Greg all the best in their lives together!

Shortly after Karolines Trash the Dress session, they wanted some nice family shots including their amazing dog Roxie. So we enjoyed the beautiful fall day and grabbed some great shots! I had a lot of fun with these guys, and Roxie was quite the ball of energy!

Well, I've finally gotten around to creating a decent looking blog for myself. Let's hope I can keep it active. With so many tools to keep updated now on the interwebs it can prove to be challenging to find the time.

However, I will do my utmost and be sure to update whenever I have something new to share with my clients!
